Great Sancerre treads a fine line, balancing the flintiness of the chalk and limestone terroir, with the fruit and acidity of the Sauvignon grape. Get it wrong and it's like drinking liquidised limestone, but find the right one and it becomes rapidly clear why it's arguably the premier appellation from the Loire.

The Domaine Bailly-Reverdy boys, Uncle Franck and his nephew Aurelian, get it right in spades. So much so Robert Parker described them as one of Sancerre's best producers, and occasionally he knows what he's talking about, and one sip more-than justifies the praise lavished on it. There are fine aromas of gooseberry and greengage with lingering hints of flint, all of which follow through onto the palate, and a crisp, mouthwatering finish. It's the perfect aperitif, or if you’re feeling flash glug it with Oysters or any delicate white fish - you won't be disappointed!
