Domaine Chatelain

Loire, France

Domaine Chatelain is cultivated by Jean Claude and his son Vincent. Vine growers from father to son since 1630, Vincent represents the 12th generation. Jean-Claude Chatelain, the eleventh generation, took over the running of the property in 1966 after completing viticultural studies in Beaune. Jean-Claude must be one of the most dynamic wine growers in the whole of the Loire valley. Over the past 10 years the vineyards have been extended and a new winery constructed to house the most advanced and sophisticated wine making equipment.

The 12th generation now runs the Chatelain vineyards covering 30 hectares of vines, in Pouilly Fumé AOC, spread over 6 towns of the 7 in the designation. Jean Claude Chatelain, together with his son Vincent, owns some of the best land at Les Chatelain, together with his son Vincent, owns some of the best land at Les Berthiers where the silex soil helps to produce fine, aromatic wines of great intensity. Les Chailloux is a single vineyard with a high proportion of silex soil which gives a wonderfully intense, characterful wine.
