Domaine Jean Tardy

Burgundy, France

Guillaume Tardy, the son of Jean Tardy and the grandson of Victor Tardy, the first of the family to farm vineyards in Burgundy back in 1920, is the current winemaker at Jean Tardy et Fils. He attended viticultural school in Beaune, followed by a degree in Oenology from the University of Dijon. After eight months working as an assistant to the winemaker at Picardy Winery in Western Australia, he returned to take up the winemaking reins in the family business. In 2003, he also took over the management of the business, still working closely with his father.

Having started by farming just the one vineyard on a sharecrop basis, owned by the prestigious Domaine Camuzet of Vosne Romanée, Jean Tardy’s father handed over to his son who has since increased the vineyards of their estate throughout various Burgundy appellations. The vineyard responsible for this wine in particular was acquired in 2008 in the AOC Hautes Côtes de Nuits. Located to the west of the Côtes de Nuits subregion, the vineyards here are found along the top of the escarpment and the surrounding slopes and valleys.
