Tasting Note

This wonderfully intense Tuscan red has a complex palate of dried cherry, figs, dates and red berries, with layers of mocha and earthiness too. The ripe and robust tannins make this a chunky wine, that would be perfect with a hearty meal and is will continue to develop over the next decade or more.

The Producer

Marchesi Mazzei

The Mazzei family have been in the wine industry for almost six hundred years. Today brothers Filippo and Francesco run the family wine estate, under the guidance of their father Lapo. The family has always had a real focus on quality, and much of their viticulture practice is sustainable and bio-dynamic. Under the past two generations the Mazzei estate has embraced new technologies to protect the environment (ie. they generate their own energy), and has also expanded by buying wineries in the two of the most promising areas in Italy: Maremma and southeastern Sicily.
