Tenuta San Guido
Tenuta San Guido is named after the Saint Guido della Gherardesca who lived during the 11th century. Not only does the estate produce world class wine, it is also a bird sanctuary and a thoroughbred studfarm! Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and his wife Clarice planted Cabernet venes on the site in 1942, simply because they loved good wine, and the estate has grown from there over the years. Impressively, some of their vineyards have been given their own DOC, the DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia, the first - and so far only - case in Italy of a DOC contained in one estate.
The vineyards are planted on plots of land with different and composite morphological characteristics, as well as with a strong presence of limestone. These areas are also rich in rocks and rather rich in clay and are located at an altitude between 100 and 300 meters above sea level, facing South / South-West.
