Tenuta San Georgio
Tenuta San Giorgio was the brainchild of Guido Folonari, heir to one of the most historical Italian wine families, who decided in 2001 to develop an ambitious wine project. “When I decided to start this adventure alone, I really decided to get up and go. What was I looking for? I did not even know myself. I was looking for a place that would thrill me. I was lucky enough to find it”. Now restored to its former glory, the estate is located in Castelnuovo dell’Abbate, in a beautiful setting of the territory of Montalcino. Guido Folonari’s philosophy is based on excellence, on product quality, on the constant search for self-improvement, and on products typical to an identifiable territory that really show off their terroir.
The vineyards of Tenuta San Giorgio are situated in Montalcino (Siena) close by Castelnuovo dell’Abate and the Cistercian abbey of Sant’Antimo. The grapes grow at an average altitude of 350-450 metres above sea level on southwest facing terrains. The soil is composed of clay loam sediments that is rich in calcium and originates from a prehistoric salt lake basin.
