Les Vignerons de Roquemaure
Roquemaure's wine-maker Armelle Rouault works very closely with their growers, carefully monitoring the work they are doing. They regularly hold meetings together under the watchful eye of the viticulture technician, where they consult and share each other’s observations and experiences in the vines, and they consistently use less chemical and phytosanitary products each year, in accordance with the winery’s instructions. The winery has high standards and only uses the best grapes on offer from the growing partners for their Grandes Cuvées wines, and they visit and inspect all the parcels throughout the year and before they are harvested.
The winery works with growers across 360 hectares, half of which are AOC and the other half IGP. It is often said that it takes a generation to renovate a vineyard and this remains true at Roquemaure. They have replanted parcels of vines each year, but the soul of their great wines still comes from the old parcels planted by their grandparents. Traditional grapes are planted on the AOC land, such as Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, and Clairette, Viognier, and Bourboulenc. On the IGP parcels traditional varieties sit side by side with more international ones, like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Marselan. The 'Les Barryes' vineyards are located near the chapel at Mayran, in the commune of Saint-Victor-la-Coste, a site that has been known since Gallo-Roman times.
