Hervé Kerlann

Burgundy, France

Born in 1953 and raised in a traditional wine world, Hervé began learning about wine from his family from a young age. By the time he was 12 years old, he was corking wine one bottle at a time as part of the Chateau’s manual bottling line. After studying oenology and winemaking in Bordeaux, London and Montréal, Hervé worked as a wine specialist in Montréal and Vancouver. In 1990, he and his wife moved to Burgundy and bought Château de Laborde in Beaune eight years later. Hervé planted his first Pinot Noir at Château de Laborde in 2000 and started to vinify in 2005. Today Hervé has acquired around 5 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune.

Hervé founded Maison Kerlann in 1993. Having been raised in the wine world, he now owns his own vineyards and domaine Chateau de Laborde. Built over 350 years ago, the estate has undergone years of restoration in order to reach its prime potential. Vines have been planted and replanted, the old barn has been transformed into a temperature controlled wine cellar, and the stables have been converted into offices and tasting room. Despite these renovations, the domaine has remained beautifully authentic.
