Domaine Saumaize-Michelin

Burgundy, France

The owners, Roger and Christine Saumize, took on the domaine in 1978 and are meticulous in both tending the vineyard and in keeping a very clean and orderly winery. Roger Saumaize in particular  is a great believer in the different terroirs of the region. The domaine's philosophy is to respect nature and the environment and as a result they produce beautiful wines that truly reflect the varied terroirs.

This is a tiny yet highly-regarded estate and perhaps the finest of the Mâconnais. Saumaize-Michelin is a small 9.5 hectare domaine based in Vergisson, in the heart of Pouilly-Fuissé. It has been fully biodynamic since 2005, which has caused an uplift in wine quality. Vines are now naturally lower-yielding and disease-resistant and have increased in complexity as a result. The vineyards lie around the base of the local landmark, the Rock of Vergisson.
